Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about LexSweep. Still stuck? Get in touch.

What is LexSweep?

LexSweep is a free daily word puzzle. Each day you get a new 5×5 symmetric word square — five hidden 5-letter words where row i reads the same as column i. You have eight guesses to solve all five rows.

How is LexSweep different from Wordle?

Wordle gives you one word and six guesses. LexSweep gives you five words arranged in a symmetric grid and eight guesses total. The symmetry means every correct letter you find in a row also constrains the matching column — so your guesses on one row help solve the others. It rewards triangulation more than pure vocabulary.

When does the daily puzzle reset?

Every day at 00:00 UTC. In US Pacific Time that is 4:00 PM the previous day; in Eastern Time, 7:00 PM the previous day; in London, midnight. Your local reset depends on your time zone.

How are guesses counted?

You get eight guesses total — not eight per row. A guess is consumed every time you submit a 5-letter word for any row. Solving a row early frees up guesses for the harder rows.

What dictionary does LexSweep use?

LexSweep uses the Wordle dictionary (answers + accepted guesses). Every row word and every column word in our puzzles is a valid 5-letter English word in that dictionary.

How many puzzles are in the rotation?

400. After we exhaust the seed list, puzzles cycle back to the start — but with 400 puzzles, that is over a year of new daily puzzles before any repeat.

Can I play past puzzles?

Yes. The archive includes every puzzle since launch. Archive plays count toward your win-rate and play count but do not affect your streak (only today's puzzle does).

How do streaks work?

Your streak goes up by 1 each day you solve today's puzzle (the live daily, not archive plays). Skip a day or fail to solve, and your streak resets to 0. Your best-ever streak is tracked separately so a reset does not erase the record.

Where are my stats stored?

In your browser's localStorage. We do not have accounts, do not store stats on a server, and do not track your gameplay. Clearing your browser data will reset your streak.

How do I share my result?

After you finish (win or lose), tap Share in the result screen. LexSweep copies a Wordle-style emoji grid to your clipboard — one row per puzzle row, showing your guesses without spoiling the answer. Paste anywhere.

Is LexSweep free?

Yes, completely free. The game is supported by display ads on the result screen, archive list, and content pages — never inside the gameplay area. There is no signup, no paywall, no premium tier.

Does LexSweep work offline?

Not currently. The page must be loaded online; once loaded, you can play the puzzle without further network requests (the puzzle is computed in your browser from a static seed list). A future PWA / offline mode is on the roadmap.

Can I play LexSweep on mobile?

Yes. The on-screen keyboard works on touch devices and the layout adapts to phone screens. Recommended browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge — anything from the last 2 years.

Why eight guesses and not six?

We tested both. Six guesses on a 5-row puzzle felt unfair — you barely had time to triangulate before running out. Eight gives skilled players room to use the column hints without making the puzzle a slog. We may tune this if data shows it is too easy or too hard.

Who built LexSweep?

LexSweep is part of a small network of independent daily-puzzle games. We build games we want to play and keep them free with display ads.
